Eclipse

As an artist, this moment in history is so fascinating. I am amazed at the creative things produced from such an event as this, total solar eclipse. Photography lenses can only take so much from the sun as well. In capturing the eclipse photographers have to be careful in how they approach viewing the sun as using an unfiltered camera lens for the sun can be quite damaging to the retinas. The total solar eclipse happens approx. every 38 years in the northwest, aka North America and the US. To miss out on this opportunity to view it would be devasting as the amount of time in between is so drastic. Of course you can watch annual eclipses in between the next total solar eclipse, but some are hard to view as they fall over oceans and may not be visible from where we are standing. I am excited to see different creative approaches to this exciting day. Happy eclipse chasing!!!

Doing My Part in the Community

I've recently realized through my jobs that I love to work with the community at various events around town. So I've decided to push more on the front of where I can participate in community events. I've already marked the calendar for some Mixers and Charity Events to be apart of for the rest of the year through the Arts. My goal at the beginning of the year was to step outside of my comfort zone, doing more things I normally probably wouldn't, and meeting lots of interesting new people. Stepping into new experiences has helped me feel involved in a good way and I will be documenting my journey all the way. Happy Monday everyone!

Working in a Gallery Setting

I've recently started a new venture working in a gallery and promoting events and educational art classes for it. This is definitely a new path I hadn't thought of doing before. Working with children is very rewarding and I have seen this in the school I work for part-time. Children have fresh ideas and open minds and aren't afraid to try new things in art. I'm looking forward to seeing where this journey takes me and learning from them as much as they learn from us. Art shows growth and should be a form of expressing things we may not be able to say.

Art in Education

Teaching is an entirely new field of art for me. I think you can learn from your students just as much as they can learn from you. The end of this year has been fun in dabbling in teaching art. I tell my students that there are no mistakes in art. The level they are on is very perfectionistic in nature. Students are obsessed with getting it just right when really there is no right way. Helping them overcome this has been a battle. Helping them let go and experiment has been quite a task, but I think they are doing just fine.
